(Brown County, Wis.) – Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach and Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport Executive Managing Director Nyika Allen joined Congressman Tony Wied (WI-08) to thank him for securing $4 million of FY26 Community Project funds to upgrade taxiways and complete other rehabilitation projects on Friday, October 23.
“Brown County and Northeast Wisconsin express the highest gratitude to Congressman Wied for championing infrastructure investment in our airport ,” says Streckenbach. “Not only do these funds repair concrete and other terminal needs, but it also demonstrates a commitment to supporting safety, efficiency, and economic development for a major regional asset.”
The federal funding will allow Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport to address aging taxiway and apron infrastructure, thus improving aircraft movement and bringing key intersections into alignment with current safety and design standards put forth by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
“Whether you’re coming home or visiting to see a Packers game at Lambeau, explore our incredible parks, enjoy a traditional Door County fish boil, or experience everything else that makes Northeast Wisconsin great, we want to make sure Green Bay Austin Straubel Airport has the resources it needs to serve our region well,” says Wied. “I am so proud to have secured the federal dollars needed to make this airport even better so it can continue serving residents and visitors for many years to come.”
“At Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport, we’ve been talking a lot lately about one simple idea – everyone deserves an upgrade,” says Allen. “For our passengers, that means a better travel experience, more comfortable facilities, and more reasons to choose their hometown airport. But an upgrade isn’t just about what you see inside the terminal. It’s also about the infrastructure behind the scenes that makes every flight possible.”
The Community Project Funding (CPF) project justification for Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB) addresses aging taxiway (TWY) and apron intersections at GRB, as well as correcting non-standard geometry at the intersection of TWY J, TWY D, and TWY M. The current configuration limits which direction aircraft can turn on or off each taxiway and needs to be modified to meet current aircraft geometry safety standards and prevent taxiway excursions, which are a key safety focus for the FAA.
