Candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, and State Treasurer Gather at Milwaukee Libertarian Meeting
MILWAUKEE, WI — With Wisconsin’s November 3 general election just days away, four Libertarian write-in candidates are stepping forward to offer voters alternatives in four statewide races.
The candidates gathered Thursday evening, October 29, at Mo’s Irish Pub in Milwaukee during a meeting of the Milwaukee Area Libertarians.
The four candidates are:
– Reese Wood — Governor
– Dan Wagner — Lieutenant Governor
– Michael Chianese — Secretary of State
– Joseph Kexel — State Treasurer
The candidacies represent a last-minute effort to expand voter choice and encourage political participation beyond Wisconsin’s two major parties.
“While we recognize the challenges of entering an election this late, we believe voters deserve more choices, not fewer,” said Wood, who currently serves as Chair of the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin. “Political participation shouldn’t be reserved for those with substantial campaign resources or the backing of established political organizations.”
Wood previously ran for Wisconsin State Assembly in 2018 and 2020 and for Janesville City Council in 2026. His current gubernatorial write-in campaign emphasizes individual liberty, government accountability, and greater political competition.
“Even with only days remaining before the election, there’s value in standing up for what you believe in,” Wood said. “We hope these campaigns encourage more Wisconsinites to become politically active, question the two-party system, and consider running for office themselves.”
The candidates hope their participation will encourage conversations about ballot access, political independence, limited government, individual rights, and the future of third-party political involvement in Wisconsin.
Although the candidates identify as Libertarians, these are individual write-in campaigns and have not been formally endorsed or sponsored by the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin. The Milwaukee affiliate meeting was not an official campaign event.
Wisconsin’s general election will take place Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Voters interested in supporting these candidates must write in the appropriate candidate’s name for the corresponding office.
