NextGen America reflects on a year of empowering young voters
Washington, D.C. — Today, NextGen America, a nationwide organization educating, engaging, and empowering young people to make their voices heard at the ballot box, published Trust is the Turnout Strategy, a report on the successes of the past year of our youth vote organizing programs.
Key highlights include:
Over 4 million young people had already voted as of data available on the morning of Election Day.
NextGen America registered over 9,000 voters, sent 6.7 million texts, sent over 20,000 plans to vote, and had over 18.7 million social media impressions.
NextGen sent more than 1 million Pulse Check Texts asking young people what issues matter to them, and what would get them to vote.
Text Every Mover, NextGen’s campaign to reach voters who have moved, sent 836,889 texts to movers in all 50 states, producing nearly 2,000 completed registrations.
NextGen blanketed campuses with billboards near dorms, unions, dining halls, and gyms in 21 states, highlighting local turnout data to emphasize the potential impact students can have in their communities, reaching 945,000 students across 57 campuses combined.
VOTE-E, NextGen’s civic engagement chatbot that provides up-to-date, nonpartisan election and ballot access information, was used by more than 32,600 people and helped register more than 3,100 people to vote to date, with 70% of VOTE-E registrants modeled as ‘unlikely voters’ and 20% registering for the first time.
Across platforms and mediums, we had 81,621 quality conversations with young people, including more than 500 one-on-one conversations on campus by mid-October.
