Democrats gain new majority power in critical battleground ahead of the presidential elections
WASHINGTON — In a critical victory, Democrats have flipped the Wisconsin Senate, ending over a decade of Republicans’ chokehold on the legislature. Flipping this chamber was a top priority for the DLCC this cycle after years of chipping away at the entrenched Republican majorities on rigged maps. This is the first time Democrats have controlled a chamber in Wisconsin since Republicans took control in the 2010 Red Wave and rigged themselves into majorities.
The DLCC has worked hand in hand with our partners in Wisconsin to build power in this ultra-competitive state. Democrats beat back millions in spending from conservative billionaires to flip this chamber and break Republicans’ grip on the statehouse.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“The DLCC and Wisconsin Democrats just delivered a massive victory, ending over a decade of a Republican chokehold on the legislature. For the first time since 2008, Democrats have won a majority in the Wisconsin Senate, and after years of Republican inaction and obstruction, we have opened the door for progress. Our newly elected majority will be ready to push back against Republican attacks on our democracy and fight for a brighter future for communities all across Wisconsin.
“This chamber flip is the result of showing up year after year to chip away at entrenched Republican power. A new Democratic majority in a crucial presidential battleground will help safeguard the democratic process for the whole country as we look to 2028 and beyond.”
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) leads the national strategy to secure Democratic power in our state legislatures. We are the campaign arm for more than 3,000 state legislators and thousands of candidates across all 50 states who are advancing Democratic values and standing up to the dangerous MAGA agenda every single day.
