MADISON, Wis. — Following David Crowley’s victory in the race for governor and Democrats gaining majorities in both chambers of the state Legislature, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Devin Remiker released the following statement:

“For the first time since 2010, Wisconsin Democrats will hold the Governor’s Office, the Senate, and the Assembly. Voters have sent a resounding message that they are tired of a broken political system, where politicians put billionaires, special interests, and their own self-interest ahead of working families. They saw Republicans in the Legislature gerrymander themselves into power, block Governor Evers at every turn, and sit on their hands while costs went up. They saw three billionaires try to buy the governor’s office for Tom Tiffany. And they chose a different direction.

“Now it’s time to deliver. Governor-elect David Crowley, Lieutenant Governor-elect Sarah Godlewski, Senate Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein, and Assembly Democratic Leader Greta Neubauer will work together to lower costs, make healthcare more affordable and accessible, invest in our public schools, and build an economy that works for all Wisconsinites.

“Tonight’s victories were more than a decade in the making. The fair maps movement fought for years to end the legislative gerrymander, Governor Evers held firm for maps that reflect the will of the people, and Attorney General Kaul argued the case against the GOP’s unconstitutional maps. Thousands of volunteers knocked doors and made calls in every corner of the state. This victory belongs to all of them.”
