MILWAUKEE – Wisconsin AFL-CIO-endorsed candidate Caleb Frostman won the special election in Wisconsin’s Senate District 1 last night, flipping a seat that had been previously won by Governor Walker by more than 20 percentage points.

“Senator-elect Caleb Frostman’s win is a huge victory for Wisconsin working people and we would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations,” said Phil Neuenfeldt, President of Wisconsin AFL-CIO. “We are confident Caleb will be a champion for working families and his win will help restore balance to the state legislature.”

“Working men and women in Wisconsin were proud to support Senator-elect Caleb Frostman and look forward to continuing to support him as he gets to work in Madison,” said Stephanie Bloomingdale, Secretary-Treasurer of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO. “Caleb is committed to protecting union rights and collective bargaining, and he will work fearlessly to prioritize job creation with good wages and create a better Wisconsin.”

Frostman defeated Assemblyman Andre Jacque, who has consistently voted against the interests of working people, including by supporting a so-called ‘right-to-work’ law that undermines working people.

Union-endorsed Democratic candidates have now flipped two seats in recent months, narrowing the Republican Senate majority from 20-13 to 18-15.
