Since it was formed in August, 2017, Nicole Zimmer, Director of Legal Action of Wisconsin’s Elder Rights Project, has been an active Task Force member: “The Elder Abuse Task Force
has acted quickly to respond to the problems of our elder abuse clients across the state. This is an important and growing public safety issue.”

According to data from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), from 2001 to
2017, reported allegations of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation and requests for information about elder abuse increased 160% in Wisconsin. The Attorney General’s Task Force on Elder Abuse has developed recommendations and resources to address this growing public safety issue.

“Our Elder Rights Project attorneys see the very real, day-to-day problems that arise from
elder abuse,” said Zimmer. “We are always looking for better tools to help solve these problems. The Task Force is working to help give us those tools.”

Legal Action of Wisconsin’s Elder Rights Project has 11 attorneys and 2 paralegals. We
provide free legal aid to hundreds of victims of elder abuse so they may recover and heal from the victimization and live in safety and security. “Civil legal aid like our Elder Rights Project is an important part of the response to elder abuse. The Task Force helps us – civil legal aid for elder abuse victims – protect and heal our clients.”

Our attorneys and paralegals are ready to help elder abuse victims with their civil legal
problems, such as restraining orders, evictions and foreclosures, and recovering assets lost to fraud.
