The liberal-controlled state Supreme Court backed hearing a case that argues the Wisconsin Constitution guarantees the right to an abortion, along with a separate case challenging an 1849 law that had been interpreted as banning abortion in Wisconsin except to save the life of the mother.

Vos argues recall organizers short of needed signatures despite WEC staff finding otherwise

The Wisconsin Elections Commission staff review of the petitions seeking to recall Assembly Speaker Robin Vos found his opponents turned in enough valid signatures to trigger an election. Still, the agency staff declined to weigh in on whether Vos, R-Rochester, can be recalled from the 63rd AD that he was elected to in 2022 after the state Supreme Court barred the use of that map going forward.

State Supreme Court renames State Law Library after state’s first female lawyer, removing Prosser’s name

Liberal members of the court praised Lavinia Goodell as a trailblazer, with Justice Ann Walsh Bradley saying renaming the library is “an opportunity to recognize her legacy and inspire the next generation of women in Wisconsin.” But conservative Justice Rebecca Bradley on X called the move “another petty and vindictive maneuver” by the court’s liberal majority.

Evers seeks vendor for Milwaukee Public Schools audit

The guv announced potential auditors will have until next Monday to respond to a request for services to conduct an operational audit of Milwaukee Public Schools, which will be done under an existing state contract with entities that have experience with educational audits. The guv also announced a list of nine eligible vendors.
