The monumental decision by the court’s new majority brings hope for a brighter future for all of Wisconsin.

The Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act — bills introduced during this Congress — would safeguard every vote, ensuring our democratic process remains secure and serves its intended purpose: government of, by and for the people.

As a new book on rural voting habits details, the caricature of rural communities full of Bible-thumping, gun-toting culture warriors badly misrepresents the politics of the countryside.

The migrant airdrops and inhumane bus rides, exacted by republican governors like Greg Abbott in Texas and Ron DeSantis in Florida, are not solely about border control. By way of influencing policy, it’s also a waste of time and disingenuous.

Sheehy provides parting thoughts as his tenure as MMAC president closes.

Jan. 9 is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, a chance for the public to thank the men and women in blue who risk their lives for us and strive to keep us safe.

Why did Washington county executive dump on Milwaukee?

The community has a big challenge to figure out a replacement for an institution and property that has served us all well for many years. Community leaders were very creative in 1968 when they established the University of Wisconsin-Washington County. They will need to be equally creative this time around.

There’s no escaping the loud, expensive year ahead.

The president would, with a robust campaign, almost certainly have scored a major victory over the other Democrats, earning favorable headlines and positioning himself to win the state in November of 2024 — as he did in November 2020. An uncontested presidential primary win will barely get a mention.

Do we head into 2024 in the dark about what constitutes an acceptable address? It sounds rather small, but it still remains a key part of the verification process of voter and witness information.

It’s time for a compromise between Democrats and Republicans, not a GOP-led shutdown if Republican ultimatums are not accepted. People are dying because of GOP games and inaction.

I will continue to stand up and speak out against attempts to undermine trust in our elections and democracy.

Jan. 6, 2021, was a political protest that devolved into a riot. Nothing more, nothing less. Of course, the protest and riot were a dark day in American history. But it was not an insurrection.

It is troubling to learn that in 2023 the loss of local newspapers accelerated to an average of 2.5 per week, leaving more than 200 counties as “news deserts”, which means more than half of all U.S. counties now have limited access to reliable local news.

The WisOpinion Insiders, Chvala and Jensen, discuss the possible outcomes as the Wisconsin Supreme Court selects new lines for the state’s legislative districts. Sponsored by the Wisconsin Counties Association and Michael Best Strategies.

Tony Evers is not given to bombast. So when he says fairer legislative political maps would bring a “revolution” to his job as Wisconsin’s governor, one takes note.

They’re certainly trying. How will state Supreme Court respond?

Our widely disliked and perennially foolish law may at last go away.
