Madison – Governor Scott Walker addressed Wisconsin job creators and business owners today at Business Day in Madison 2017, which was held at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. This annual conference is hosted by Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC).
“We’ve come a long way since first taking office,” Governor Walker said. “Our tough, but prudent reforms helped us get Wisconsin back on track. During the past year, more people were employed in our state than ever before. Unemployment is down to its lowest levels since 2001. And the percentage of people working in Wisconsin is among the best in the country. But there’s more work to be done. That’s why our 2017-2019 budget proposal invests our hard-earned savings back into our top priorities – student success, accountable government, and rewarding work. Together, we’ll continue to move Wisconsin forward and make our state a place where people want to live and work, travelers want to visit, and companies want to start their business.”
Governor Scott Walker’s Executive Budget proposal includes a total of $592.7 million in tax relief. His proposal lowers property taxes, eliminates the state portion of the property tax bill, fully implements the manufacturing and agriculture production tax credit, provides working families with a sales tax holiday on school supplies and clothing, and cuts income taxes. If the Wisconsin Legislature passes Governor Walker’s budget proposal as it stands today, the cumulative impact of the governor’s tax cuts over his two terms totals $8 billion.
