JFC to resume budget votes today

The Joint Finance Committee will end a more than two-month break from the budget today with an agenda that includes the reorganization of the DNR, the repeal of the forestry mill tax and DATCP.
The guv's call to repeal the forestry tax, the only state property tax, was originally expected to require $180.5 million in general purpose revenue to cover the lost property tax money and continue to fund programs those funds now cover.
But LFB notified lawmakers this week property values rose faster in 2017 than expected, driving up the price tag to wipe out the forestry tax and backfill it with GPR....
