MADISON – Representative Evan Goyke (D-Milwaukee) and Senator Roger Roth (R-Appleton) released the following statement after the legislature’s passage of Senate Bill 47:
“This important piece of legislation is pro-veteran and pro-business,” Rep. Goyke stated following the bill’s passage.

“It supplements the State’s ongoing focus to support service-disabled veteran owned businesses and entrepreneurs. I’m grateful to work again with Senator Roth this session on legislation to help Wisconsin veterans. I also thank Rep. Kooyenga, Sen. Ringhand, and all of the State agencies and veterans groups for working with us to craft this bill.”

“Many Wisconsinites serve our nation and then return home to put their skills to work in the private sector, including owning and operating businesses. SB 47 ensures that all disabled veterans are on a level playing field when they own a business in Wisconsin,” Sen. Roth said.

Wisconsin has a strong tradition of its citizens serving our nation in uniform and returning home to be leaders in their respective communities. SB 47 creates parity between Wisconsin and the federal government in regards to its certification standards for service-disabled veteran owned businesses. Under the legislation, all Wisconsin business owners with a service connected disability rating from the US Department of Veterans Affairs will be eligible for certification by the State of Wisconsin. Currently in Wisconsin, over 30 businesses have been certified.
SB 47 is supported by the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Administration. This legislation is also supported by the Wisconsin Departments of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, AMVETS, Military Order of the Purple Heart, and County Veteran Service Officer Association. The bill now goes to Governor Walker for his signature.
