The Tradition of Excellence Continues
MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN – The Wisconsin Forum invites the public to hear Bruno Behrend on Thursday, January 18, 2018. The title of Behrend’s presentation: “Is America A “Public School Country?” Will School Choice Save Public Education Or Destroy It?”
Bruno Behrend. J.D., is the Founder of American Transparency, a non-profit organization dedicated to putting all local, state, and federal spending in one database, ready for or instant retrieval. Bruno Behrend is also a senior fellow for education policy at The Heartland Institute, a free market think tank.
One year into a new administration, the stalemate on education reform has continued and education choice legislation still moves very slowly. What is the best, next step forward for transforming education in America? Do we want to tweak what we already have, or do we want to aggressively change the paradigm of what an “education system” really is?
In this provocative presentation, Behrend will discuss the impact of the presidential election and other recent changes, including bills, court cases, and other developments in education policy. These changes will be analyzed inside a framework of a potentially radical new way of looking at education.
Behrend is a coauthor, with Heartland Institute’s CEO Joseph Bast and Policy Advisor Ben Boychuk, of “The Parent Trigger: A Model for Transforming Education,” a Heartland Policy Brief released in August 2010.
In 2009, Behrend served as the policy director/strategist to a gubernatorial candidate in the Illinois primary election. In 2008, he co-authored Illinois Deserves Better – The Ironclad Case for an Illinois Constitutional Convention, which coincided with a campaign to pass a referendum calling for a constitutional convention in the state. Behrend also served as an advisor to various groups seeking to rewrite the legislative article of the Illinois Constitution.
From 2006 through 2008, Behrend hosted a radio show in the Northern Chicago metropolitan area. The show showcased various authors and policy specialists, ranging from publisher Steve Forbes, Phoenix University Founder John Sperling, columnist Mark Steyn, author Shelby Steele, and Heartland Senior Fellow Jay Lehr.
Behrend is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, where he earned his degree in finance. He earned his J.D. from IIT-Kent College of Law in 1990 and is licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois.
