Supreme Court reinstates in-person voting tomorrow for spring election

The state Supreme Court Monday afternoon overturned Tony Evers’ order pushing back in-person voting until June, putting the spring election back on hours after he sought to delay it amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Evers’ order was enjoined in its entirety in the 4-2 ruling other than a provision calling the Legislature into a special session Tuesday to pick a new date for in-person voting. That provision is now moot with the election moving forward. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R-Juneau, who led the legal fight over the guv’s order, praised the decision. They said

U.S. Rep. Kind: Demands Secretary Mnuchin allow farmers to access small business emergency funds for land rent

La Crosse, WI— Today, Rep. Ron Kind sent a letter to Secretary of Treasury Steve Mnuchin demanding that he provide immediate clarity for farmers’ eligibility for the paycheck protection program (PPP) that was created as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which was passed by Congress last month. Due to low commodity prices and a seemingly never-ending trade war, agriculture has been hit hard in recent years. In Wisconsin alone, two dairy farms closed every day last year. Farmers were hoping to see some much-needed relief this year, only to find themselves in chaos as the COVID-19 outbreak continues to

Common Cause in Wisconsin: Statement on Governor’s executive order to postpone April 7th election

Common Cause in Wisconsin, the state’s largest non-partisan citizens voting rights and reform organization, absolutely supports today’s executive order issued by the Governor to postpone in-person voting for tomorrow’s Spring election until June 9th, or until such date that the Wisconsin Legislature, meeting in special session, should decide in agreement with the Governor. The health and safety of the citizens of Wisconsin demand that polling places not be opened on April 7th for the purpose of in-person voting. We vehemently urge that the Wisconsin Legislature place partisan political considerations aside and unite in support of protecting Wisconsin citizens and avert

MADISON – Gov. Tony Evers today announced an executive order that would delay the Spring Election and Presidential Primary to June 9. Wisconsin Conservation Voters supports this order. Executive Director Kerry Schumann issued this statement: “Gov. Evers made the right call today by ordering a delay of this week’s election. It’s unconscionable to unnecessarily subject thousands of people to the health risks associated with COVID-19, including spreading the virus to the most vulnerable among us – our parents, our grandparents, and those already facing serious health issues. There is no reason to sacrifice our health – and potentially lives. Our
