Congresswoman Moore sent a letter to Speaker Pelosi to press for protections for individuals and families that depend on the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, including emergency funding to address expected increased caseload and to allow for commonsense waivers of harmful requirements that will only hurt vulnerable families in these trying times. In conjunction, Congresswoman Moore issued the following statement:

“I wrote to Speaker Pelosi to secure stronger protections for families served by the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program and ensure that this program can meet its growing needs. The pandemic is creating difficult circumstances for millions of Americans and is placing an even heavier burden on poor people.

As millions are unemployed and seek relief, the most marginalized shouldn’t be punished for a situation out of their control with unfair and harmful work requirements or face TANF ineligibility when relief is needed most. These difficult times require us to continue working to close the gaping holes in our safety net programs and help prevent Americans from falling through the cracks of poverty.”
