The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is requesting public feedback on proposed improvements at the US 18/151 and County F intersection near the Village of Blue Mounds in Dane County.
WisDOT is proposing to improve intersection safety and operations with a Restricted Crossing U-Turn, or RCUT. There are two RCUT designs under consideration – a J-Turn and a Median U-Turn.
- The J-turn design allows County F traffic to turn right-in and right-out at the intersection. To turn left onto US 18/151, or continue across on County F, vehicles will turn right onto US 12/18 and use a U-Turn. US 18/151 traffic can make left turns onto County F.
- The Median U-Turn does not allow US 18/151 traffic to make left turns onto County F. To turn left onto County F, drivers will continue through the U-Turn, then use the right turn lane on the opposite side of the road.
Both designs accomplish the desired safety improvements. The advantage of the J-turn is left turn lanes for US 18/151 traffic, while the Median U-Turn has a slightly smaller footprint and a lower cost. Construction at the intersection is currently scheduled for 2025.
