MILWAUKEE— Sachin Chheda, director at the Fair Elections Project, issued the following statement in response to the Senate Government Operations committee vote on SB621 Thursday morning:

“Despite massive public opposition to the rigged maps, the legislative majority passed SB 621 in committee today. A supermajority of Wisconsinites oppose gerrymandering, and these secretly-drawn, extremely-rigged maps weaken and divide our state. It’s worth noting that not a single Wisconsin resident came to this committee’s hearing in support of their Party bosses’ bill.

“Instead of wasting time on political theater on maps that are sure to be vetoed, the legislative majority should have drawn fair maps that could earn broad support. That would have helped restore faith in democracy across our state.”
