Madison, WI – Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin (GHC-SCW) announces pediatric COVID-19 vaccination clinics for 5 to 11-year-old members will begin this Saturday.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) both approved the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) emergency use authorization of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11-years-old. Pediatric vaccine guidelines are forthcoming from the CDC. All staff will have completed this training prior to administering the COVID-19 vaccine to 5 to 11-year-olds.

Starting today, GHC-SCW members will be able to schedule appointments for 5 to 11-year-old children through GHCMyChart or by calling the COVID-19 vaccine scheduling line at (608)-662-4914.

“We need to protect children from COVID-19 and the potential of long-term risks, and also protect their loved ones – vaccines do that,” said Alison Craig-Shashko, MD, Pediatrician and Chief of Staff at GHC-SCW. “Children should be vaccinated so that they’re healthy and so that their social support system is healthy, that includes parents, grandparents, and teachers.”

GHC-SCW will hold first shot pediatric appointments on Saturdays in November (11/6, 11/13, 11/20) at the following GHC-SCW locations:

GHC-SCW DeForest Clinic

815 S. Main St.

DeForest, WI 53532

9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

GHC-SCW Administrative Building

1265 John Q. Hammons Dr.

Madison, WI 53717

9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Both locations will be festive to help ease any apprehension children may have. The vaccine areas will be decorated with a superhero theme, including balloons, child-sized capes, prizes, and stickers. For the latest information on pediatric COVID-19 vaccine clinics, click here.
