MILWAUKEE – Supervisor Sequanna Taylor presented County Board citations to Karin Tyler of the City of Milwaukee’s Office of Violence Prevention and community organization Making Strides of Milwaukee at today’s County Board meeting.

“I am honored to be able to recognize Ms. Tyler and Making Strides of Milwaukee this November, but I applaud them for their work all year round,” said Supervisor Taylor. “I thank the Supervisor’s that showed their support for the presentation by wearing purple or pink, and showcasing their personalized Domestic Violence and Breast Cancer Awareness month backgrounds. By working together and with our community partners we can make strides to end domestic violence and breast cancer.”

Supervisor Taylor recognized Tyler for her commitment to being one of the leading voices in gender-based violence prevention. Tyler currently serves as the Family Injury & Violence Prevention Manager for the City of Milwaukee’s Office of Violence Prevention, where she is responsible for the management of family and gender-based violence prevention efforts.

Tyler was a supporter of Supervisor Taylor’s County Board resolution requesting the implementation of a Purple Alert system in the state of Wisconsin, which was unanimously adopted in November 2020.

Making Strides of Milwaukee was recognized as an inspiring network committed to following the motto of “Supporting Survivors, Thrivers, and Caregivers.” Making Strides of Milwaukee was initiated by the American Cancer Society to fundraise for the advancement of breast cancer research, provide a channel for walk events, and provide space for community members to fight against the disease together. The organization held its 26th annual walk to fight breast cancer in October.

Shannon Richards, who serves as Senior Development Manager for Making Strides of Milwaukee, accepted the citation on behalf of the organization.
