MADISON, Wis. – The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is in part a result of Republicans’ decades-long war against reproductive health. Republican politicians in Wisconsin have now achieved what they’ve been pushing for years, and the state’s 1849 criminal ban could go into effect – even in cases of rape and incest. That means doctors are being threatened with jail time and people’s lives are at risk.
These extremist attacks on abortion access are wildly unpopular and out-of-touch with nearly 60 percent of people across our state – but that hasn’t stopped Republican politicians from inserting themselves into Wisconsinites’ private medical decisions.
As the Wisconsin GOP tries to turn back the clock and force an archaic pre-Civil War era abortion ban on Wisconsin families, every voter across the state deserves to know where their elected officials and candidates stand.
Here are three questions every Wisconsin Republican needs to answer for their party’s attacks on Americans’ fundamental freedom to make their own medical decisions:
- Do you believe that abortion should be illegal, even in cases of rape and incest?
- Do you support a federal abortion ban?
- Do you believe that taking away Wisconsinites’ rights is a higher priority than cutting costs and lowering inflation?
