Waupun, Wis. – Today, Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) Secretary Kathy Blumenfeld met with City of Waupun leadership, toured the Waupun Senior Center and learned about project plans for a new senior center facility made possible through a $5 million Neighborhood Investment Fund grant from Governor Evers.
The Secretary met with Mayor Rohn Bishop, Waupun City Administrator Kathy Schlieve, members of the Waupun Senior Center Advisory Committee, and senior center staff.
“The Waupun Senior Center is just the sort of project that Governor Evers set out to support through the Neighborhood Investment Fund program,” said DOA Secretary Kathy Blumenfeld, “and we’re thrilled to see the impact it will make for the benefit of the Waupun community for years to come.”
“The Waupun Senior Center serves residents of Waupun and surrounding communities, connecting people to resources, activities and nutrition to manage wellbeing and improve quality of life,” said City Administrator Kathy Schlieve. “In 2018, the City of Waupun set forth an initiative to make Waupun a place where residents could thrive across their lifespan, identifying the need to create a community space that would support more robust programming. With the help of the Neighborhood Investment Fund grant, I am pleased to say the City of Waupun is well on their way to realizing this vision. This new facility will transform our community and we are very thankful to the Department of Administration, and the Governor’s Office, for their support of our grant application.”
The Neighborhood Investment Fund program was initially announced in August 2021 with additional investments announced in May 2022 and has provided local and Tribal governments with capital investments to meet ongoing community needs, especially in areas impacted by the pandemic. Grants are administered by the Department of Administration and funded through the American Rescue Plan Act.
Governor Evers has recently called for expanding the successful program to meet ongoing workforce challenges around the state, through a $150 million budget proposal.
