MILWAUKEE – Today, Governor Evers announced a call for a special session to address the issues facing Wisconsin families, including child care, paid family leave, and investing in the UW System. Representative Joers joined Governor Evers at his announcement in Milwaukee, speaking on the importance of addressing the child care crisis. Representative Joers released the following statement:

“I’m honored to join the Governor this morning to talk about the importance of continuing the effort of advocating for Wisconsin families. For too long we have accepted that quality, affordable child care is out of reach for working families, but that it is no longer acceptable.

“Child Care Counts has kept the early education industry just far enough away from the cliff. Due to Governor Evers’ leadership, closures across our state have been averted for the moment, but the legislature can no longer afford to ignore this child care crisis.

“It should be clear that any conversation about bolstering our workforce needs to begin with child care. Parents should have every opportunity to find financial stability in our state, but they cannot go to a job if their children aren’t cared for.

“If we want to encourage families to come to Wisconsin and stay in Wisconsin, taking up these special session items is crucial. And I’ll go further to say, the most responsible thing we can do is invest in our kids and their future, so let’s do that now.”
