MADISON, WI – Rep. Plumer released the following statement after Governor Evers vetoed legislation authored by the representative to help prevent job interview “ghosting”:
“I am disappointed, but not surprised by Governor Evers’ veto. He has shown time and time again that he will reject commonsense legislation that supports local businesses in our communities and helps get folks back into the workforce.
The bill was simple and straightforward. If you are receiving unemployment checks from the government and completing your required work-searches, you need to go to the job-interviews that you are offered. Too often, we’ve heard of individuals applying for a job, then “ghosting” and not showing up to the interview. That way they can still collect their government benefit without having to get a job.
Government assistance programs are meant to get people and families through tough times. My legislation would have helped ensure folks get back into the workforce, back on their feet, and earning a steady paycheck.”
