Madison… Sen. Cory Tomczyk (R-Mosinee) released the following statement regarding Governor Evers’ veto of Assembly Bills 141 and 142:
“Last Friday, quite predictably, “Governor Veto” struck again. In rejecting Assembly Bills 141 and 142, which I was honored to lead in the Senate, Governor Evers continued to help destroy the free market system, to erode free choice for Wisconsin citizens, and assume dictatorial powers for himself.
“This legislation imposed nothing on Wisconsin citizens. It simply protected their right to choose. These bills would have prevented any government, state or local, from restricting the use of vehicles or devices based on their power source. Whether someone wants to use an electric snow blower in Milwaukee, drive an electric car in Superior, fire up a gas stove in Holmen, or run their diesel combine in Weyerhaeuser, that should be up to the consumer, not the government. Do not dictate to any resident of the State of Wisconsin what they must use!
“Again, these bills simply preserve choice for our residents.
“What the bills will do though, is to keep Comrade Evers’ social engineering out of our state. The Governor’s veto response, or should I say his handler’s response to his veto, shows his ideology when he implies that a Wisconsin citizen exercising his or her individual choice regarding consumer goods, ‘would diminish our collective ability to ________’ (you fill in the blank – climate change, end fossil fuel dependence, or any other leftist ideology).
“Sorry Tony – Marxist central planning and collectivism, preferred by you and the Democrats, has an abysmal track record. Free markets and consumer choice are the time-honored American way to innovation and future progress. Make no mistake, Tony Evers’ actions will result in increased costs for Wisconsin residents when their vehicles, devices, and even stoves are banned following the lead of states like California and New York. My constituents in Northern Wisconsin want their choices.”
