MADISON, Wis. – UW Health | Carbone Cancer Center invites the community to support pancreatic cancer patients and research efforts at the 10th annual Roll and Stroll for Pancreas Cancer.
Roll and Stroll is organized by the Pancreas Cancer Task Force, a group of volunteers dedicated to raising funds for pancreas cancer research while supporting patients throughout their cancer journey. The task force aims to raise $200,000 this year, with all money raised to support pancreas cancer research and care initiatives at Carbone Cancer Center.
The event takes place Sunday, Aug. 13, at Capital Brewery, 7734 Terrace Ave. Middleton. Day-of registration and check-in begin at 8:30 a.m.
Pancreas cancer continues to be an especially deadly cancer, with only approximately 10% of people living more than five years after being diagnosed, according to the American Cancer Society. Pancreas cancer is the third leading cause of all cancer-related deaths in Wisconsin and across the United States, which is why donations like those from this event are so vital, according to Dr. Howard Bailey, director, Carbone.
“Tackling the unique challenges of pancreas cancer requires a lot of support,” he said. “The more we can investigate how this cancer progresses and who it impacts, the more we can discover how to better prevent, diagnose and treat pancreas cancer.”
Roll and Stroll is also a healing place for survivors and the community, according to Gerianne Holzman, chair of Roll and Stroll 2023.
“Gathering survivors, along with their family, friends and care teams shows everyone impacted by this disease that they are not alone,” she said. “This can create a stronger community and show us what we can accomplish together.”
Participants can choose from a 50K, 25K or 5K bike ride, as well as a 5K run or a two-mile roll and stroll, which is open to walkers, scooters, wheelchairs, skateboards and dogs. Roll and Stroll will also include music, raffles, games, food and more.
To donate or register and see the full agenda, visit the Roll and Stroll event website, where participants can create their own fundraising team, join a team or register individually.
This year’s event is dedicated to former UW–Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank, who passed away from the disease in February 2023.
