I commend Congressman Tom Tiffany (R – 7th District, Wisconsin) for his interview with Vicki McKenna earlier this week. The congressman discussed a horrific event that occurred in Prairie du Chien the previous week.

Coronel Zarate was charged and arrested with domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and strangulation. The crime in itself is disgusting and reprehensible, but once again could have been avoided if not for the failed border policies of the Biden/Harris administration.

Mr. Zarate is not new to criminal activity. He illegally entered our country in September 2023 near the El Paso, Texas point of entry. In November, he was arrested with stolen property in Minneapolis. The following month, he was arrested again in our state, in Dane County. He was charged with strangulation, false imprisonment, battery, and disorderly conduct. Finally, his crime spree continued in Prairie du Chien with charges of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and strangulation. Why was this man not detained and brought to justice for our communities’ sake and for the sake of the victim’s families? The answer is sanctuary city and county polices. Our local officials refused to notify the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency about this individual who was ravaging our local communities with violence.

This is not the only example here in Wisconsin and certainly not in our nation of illegal immigrants committing horrific crimes against our legal citizens. This leads one to believe, even if you don’t live in a border state, “every state is a border state now.”

In Rusk County a drunk driver, who illegally entered our country from Mexico, committed felony homicide this year. He killed a father of three daughters. In Fond du Lac County this year, an illegal immigrant from Nicaragua attempted to sexually assault a 12-year-old girl. Two months ago, Clark County suffered from the violence of a Mexican man, who entered the country illegally, and stabbed three people, killing two children. Sadly, these are just a few of the overwhelming examples of a lawless border and its effects here in Wisconsin.

Congressman Tiffany correctly stated, “Time and time again, we have seen the tragic consequences of Joe Biden’s border crisis; yet, the president refuses to reverse course. No town is immune, even our towns up north in Wisconsin are feeling the horrific impact.”

My detractors will say this article is xenophobic. To them, I will say there is nothing xenophobic about demanding to follow the rule of law that this country was built on. I support legal immigration. I do not support importing lawlessness and degradation. Thank you, Congressman Tiffany, for speaking up on this issue and I will continue to do the same.
