Statewide races
With two-term Dem Gov. Tony Evers not seeking reelection, Wisconsin has an open race for the Capitol’s East Wing for the first time since 2010. Two Republicans are running for the GOP nomination on Aug. 11, while five Democrats are vying for their party’s nomination.
This year also features open races for lieutenant governor and secretary of state, along with a rematch between Dem Attorney General Josh Kaul and GOP Fond du Lac Co. DA Eric Toney to serve as the state’s top cop.

Key congressional races
In a race drawing national attention, two Democrats are running in the primary to face 3rd CD GOP U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden in the competitive western Wisconsin congressional seat. Meanwhile, Dems are also seeking to make a play against 1st CD GOP U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil in the southeast corner of the state. And with U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany giving up his strongly Republican 7th CD seat in the Northwoods to run for governor, five Republicans and three Democrats are running in primaries to make the Nov. 3 general election ballot.
