Trump and his Republicans in Congress want the Save Act to allow them to limit who is allowed to vote in American elections. The bill attacks voting rights in multiple ways.
It requires a passport, birth certificate, or a handful of other documents to register and vote. It excludes student IDs, most driver’s licenses, and tribal IDs lacking an expiration date.
More than 21 million Americans lack ready access to these documents; with Black, Latino and Asian Americans three times more likely to not have them.

It eliminates most in-person voter registration since election officials would need original proof of citizenship and others can’t submit proof on people’s behalf. This bill severely disrupts or limits online and mail registration.
It mandates voter purges every 30 days, allowing people to be mistakenly thrown off voter rolls right before elections.
It gives access to state voter files to the current administration eager to manipulate or evade laws to consolidate power.
Placing state voter rolls in the hands of those in power is a license to deny the vote to those who do not support the candidates nor the policies of those holding power.
The SAVE Act will result in selections, not elections, in 2026 in America.
