Our founders made it perfectly clear where power should reside. They did not begin the Constitution with the presidency. Article 1,Section 1, opens with Congress stating clearly and concisely that “all legislative powers” belong to the Senate and the House.

These powers include: The power to set the federal budget. The power to impose tariffs. The power to decide who should be a citizen. The power to lay and collect taxes. The power to declare war. Even the power to bomb Iran. None of these powers belong to the presidency and certainly not to Donald Trump.

Congress has surrendered its power. It has no say in authorizing military action. It is uninterested in being a coequal branch of government. The Republicans in Congress are on their knees succumbing to fear, intimidation and weakness. Does anybody doubt that the person running Congress is Donald Trump?

Congress has decided to relinquish its autonomy and power to another coequal branch of government. We are no longer a nation of, by and for the people. Our Constitution’s declarations and laws have been nullified by this executive branch power grab.

This one-man rule rewards the rich, giving more to those who have too much while offering no support to those who have too little. This president runs roughshod over Congress acquiring unprecedented wealth and is allowed to rescind agencies, departments and even previously approved funding as Congress cowers in silence.

Our nation is in need of radical change. Middle- and working-class Americans must use their votes this November to unseat the Republicans in Congress who have allowed our democracy to be pushed aside to honor one man’s demand of power.
