Hi, this is Senator Dan Feyen.

A new Marquette Law School poll released earlier this week confirmed what legislators have been hearing from taxpayers for months: Wisconsin families are struggling with rising costs and want their legislature to deliver real relief.

In fact, the poll found that 4 out of 5 Wisconsinites supported the income and property tax relief bill that was blocked by Senate Democrats earlier this month. Looks like once again, Democrats are on the wrong side of another 80-20 issue.

This bill wasn’t perfect, but in divided government, compromise is a necessity. Legislative Republicans accepted that reality and worked with the Governor to put forward a good-faith compromise focused on affordability and putting money back in your pocket. The bill included no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, direct surplus payments, property tax relief, and investments in special education. The concept was simple, and something taxpayers understand: when the state collects billions more than it needs, that money should go back to the taxpayers.

Despite overwhelming public support, every single Senate Democrat voted against the bill, choosing to play dirty partisan politics with your money.

Republicans will continue working to make your life more affordable. As for Senate Democrats? Well, 80% of Wisconsinites wanted tax relief and Senate Democrats voted unanimously to block it. I think that speaks volumes about where their priorities really are.
