The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) does not support or endorse Wisconsin SB 28, the “Right Of First Refusal” bill. The LPWI believes that competition, not government mandates and protected monopolies, is the true path to affordability and accountability.

“With the introduction of SB 28, otherwise known as Right Of First Refusal, the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin wants to make a firm stance against the bill. SB 28 would give certain utility companies first dibs on any projects, eliminating competition. This will surely raise prices for utility consumers and taxpayers, as there will be no competitive bidding.

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin stands firmly against any government-sponsored monopolies and believes in a free market void of government intervention” – Wyatt Benson, LPWI Legislative Outreach Coordinator

The LPWI will continue to oppose any and all attempts to bypass a free market system. Liberty is achieved by the free exchange of items, services, and ideas. There is no incentive to improve when there is no competition.
