MADISON, Wis. — This month, the Veto Review Floor Period officially came to an end for the 2025-2026 Wisconsin State Assembly Session.

Representative Udell (D – 47th District) released the following statement:

“This past session, ten new Democratic seats and twenty-three new Democratic members were sworn into the State Assembly. While Federal Republicans have upended our economy and public systems, these new seats allowed our caucus to stand strong against their harmful initiatives in Wisconsin.

“This session, Assembly Republicans passed legislation that would punish counties with 15% reduced funding if their sheriff did not comply with ICE’s deeply unpopular practices, that would close schools around the state under the guise of cost-saving measures, and that would nonsensically restrict data centers from using renewable energy on their property to help cover their energy demands. Thankfully, our united opposition and Governor Evers’ veto prevented these policies from becoming law.

“Meanwhile, Assembly Democrats introduced 500 bills. While the Republican majority only gave 19 of these a public hearing, they included proposals to reduce costs of prescriptions, healthcare, tax burden, groceries, housing, and childcare, as well as to safeguard voting rights, secure personal freedoms, and protect our Democracy. Wisconsin needs a better direction, and our proposals meet the moment.”
