If you’re a conservative who lives in a blue state or county, you face a terrible dilemma regarding abortion: stand on principle and probably lose, or use strategy and still possibly lose.

Here are the typical positions taken by conservatives in blue areas, and their result:

1. Oppose all abortions without exception. Then you get labeled an extremist by the left, and lose.

2. Oppose all abortion, except in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. In a blue area, you’re probably going to lose the election.

3. Argue about how many weeks abortion should be legal. This smacks of big government and basically ends up as an essentially pro-choice position.

4. Sell out.

This doesn’t solve anything even if you’re able to win the election.

Here is a better strategy…

Defund abortion

If liberals can defund the police, then conservatives can defund abortion!

Defunding abortion means you pay for the abortion, not the government. Defunding abortion would massively reduce the number of abortions because almost no one pays for their own abortions.

Polling backs up this stance. Most people think that you should pay for your own abortions, not the government. 

In a blue area, you can call for defunding abortion, and then when attacked by the left, you can claim you’re a pro-life conservative who allows choice.

Hard liquor is defunded. Gambling is defunded. Guns are defunded. Pornography is defunded. Bungee jumping is defunded. All these things are paid for by you, not the government. Let’s add abortion to the list of things that are defunded.

I want to thank all the Wisconsin organizations opposing abortion, including Wisconsin Right to Life, Pro-Life Wisconsin, Wisconsin Family Action, and the Catholic Church in general.
