Gov. Scott Walker signed a bill Nov. 11 that eliminated a requirement that children be at least 10 years old to hunt with a mentor.
According to the DNR, this year saw 1,814 deer hunting licenses purchased for children aged 9 and younger. Ten of those licenses were for children less than 1 year old.
The DNR report shows one deer harvest registered to a 4-year-old, and seven registered to 5-year-olds. The DNR did not indicate whether the chidren themselves or another hunter shot the deer.
