Mahlon Mitchell calls for Wisconsinites to band together

Dem guv candidate Mahlon Mitchell called for Wisconsinites to band together like the members of his union did when one of their own suffered a severe accident. He said state government should come to the aid of struggling people who might not otherwise have anyone to turn to. “What I saw after [the accident] was brothers and sisters from across the country that came together for Casey in his greatest time of need. What happens when someone doesn’t have that support system?” Mitchell said. He argued government can help the state’s citizens by instituting a $15 minimum wage, eliminating the

Evers: ‘god damn sick of Scott Walker gutting our public schools’

Tony Evers told Dem activists on Friday he’s sometimes asked why he wants to run for guv because some believe he should continue fighting for schools as state superintendent. But Evers said that’s exactly why he’s running. “I am running for governor because I am god damn sick of Scott Walker gutting our public schools, insulting our hardworking educators and destroying higher education in Wisconsin,” Evers said. Evers, who has won statewide election three times, touted his electability to activists. In addition to his wins, he noted he’s leading in polls of primary voters and a survey his campaign released

Kohl to Republicans: ‘Bring it on’

Dem Dan Kohl, who is running against GOP U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman, challenged the incumbent and his Republican allies to “bring it on” if they have a problem with him advocating for issues such as helping vets find work and providing health care to children. Kohl, the nephew of former U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl, D-Milwaukee, said Grothman and Republicans are nervous because they know November will be a referendum on issues such as lowering health care costs and allowing older Americans to buy into Medicare. “He sees what’s coming in November and so do Republicans,” Kohl said, adding the Koch

Dems have plan to keep guv candidates to five-minute speeches — and no more

There’s a risk anytime politicians are before a convention microphone that they’ll go over the allotted time for a speech. But the Dem Party has a plan to keep the guv contenders to their five minutes. Spokeswoman Melanie Conklin said the 10 guv candidates who will address the convention Friday night are limited to five minutes each. They will have a timer they can see at the podium to keep track of their time. Once they hit five minutes, the mic will be cut off — and not one second more. After that, the intro music for the next speaker

Gov. Scott Walker has been claiming that his Dem opponents are fueled by anger and hatred. State Dem Chair Martha Laning isn’t buying it. “It’s not our party who is actually comparing a U.S. senator to a terrorist. It’s not our party who is claiming if you don’t believe what I believe and you’re a veteran, there’s something wrong with you,” Laning said, referring to comments from GOP U.S. Senate candidates Leah Vukmir and Kevin Nicholson. “I think the Republican Party and Donald Trump on a regular basis spews out a lot of hate.” As Dems gather this weekend in
