UW-Madison: Chancellor Rebecca Blank, responding to County Executive Parisi

Chancellor Rebecca Blank released the following statement: County Executive Parisi and I both share similar concern for the health and well-being of UW–Madison students and the residents of Dane County.  That is the primary reason we have instituted a robust testing regime – to ensure we knew about and could take action related to the spread of COVID-19. It’s the university’s goal to be a partner with the city and county and not unduly strain limited resources.  To be clear, we have created significant testing capacity on our campus, which has had available slots every day for members of the

UW System: President Tommy Thompson on UW-Madison mitigation steps

MADISON, Wis.— University of Wisconsin System President Tommy Thompson today issued this statement: “I support the additional mitigation steps announced by Chancellor Blank today. These steps are not unlike those employed by other universities around the country. Students will remain on campus, as recommended by health experts, and UW-Madison will take a two-week period to deliver all courses online, halting in-class delivery out of an abundance of caution. We will continue to remain in close contact with officials at UW-Madison along with local, state and national health experts. Students, faculty and staff must be vigilant to combat this virus. These tactics

MILWAUKEE – A new Marquette Law School Poll in Wisconsin finds slight change in voting preferences or attitudes in the wake of shootings and protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in late August. In early September, Democratic former Vice President Joe Biden is the choice of 47 percent of likely voters and Republican President Donald Trump is supported by 43 percent. Libertarian candidate Jo Jorgensen is the choice of 4 percent, while 7 percent say they would vote for none of these candidates, didn’t know how they would vote or declined to say. In August, before the events in Kenosha, Biden was

Biden campaign: Wisconsin veterans slam Trump on report of his shameful comments about our men and women in uniform

Today, Wisconsin veterans responded to President Trump’s shameful comments reported by The Atlantic about the heroic men and women who have lost their lives in service to this country. Their comments come after Vice President Biden spoke about the reporting in a speech last week, saying: “President Trump has demonstrated that he has no sense of service, no loyalty to any cause other than himself. If I have the honor of being the next Commander in Chief, I will ensure that our American heroes know that I’ll have their backs, honor their sacrifice, and those that have been injured will be in military parades.” UpNorthNews: Wisconsin Vets

In response, she released the following statement: “Trump’s presidential memorandum provides no relief to the millions unemployed during the economic crisis and may harm the employees who would be subjected to deferral As is, the ‘relief’ provided by the President simply shifts when employees will pay these taxes, meaning those affected will see smaller paychecks in four months.  Just one

WisGOP: Sen. Harris’ Wisconsin fiasco

[Madison, WI] – For the first time since being announced as Joe Biden’s running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris hit the campaign trail and visited Wisconsin. She and Biden skipped the DNC in Milwaukee weeks ago because of COVID, but have suddenly made two trips to the state in less than a week — despite rising numbers of COVID cases. The trip underscores just how out of touch the liberal California senator is with Wisconsin voters. Her visit was highlighted by attacks on her anti-worker record, questions over her abandoning Wisconsin during the DNC, and press handlers rushing her away from

(WISCONSIN) — Today, Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald signed a letter calling on the Big Ten Commissioner to reconsider his previous decision to keep students and athletes safe and postpone the season. The Big 10 made the decision because Donald Trump, Fitzgerald, and Vos failed to take meaningful steps to contain COVID-19 and ensure student athletes could compete safely. This is costing local Wisconsin businesses millions of dollars in combined revenue as well as squandering the experience of current and new students. “We don’t get to watch our beloved Badgers take on and beat the tar out of the Minnesota

Biden campaign: The plan to fight for workers by delivering on Buy America and Make It in America

President Trump chooses multinational corporate interests over American workers again and again. He promised a major infrastructure plan and policies to end outsourcing and bring jobs back to the United States. Instead, he created a tax loophole that actually rewards companies for shipping jobs and profits overseas. While Trump talks about Buy American on Twitter and TV, he’s allowed companies receiving federal contracts – paid for with taxpayer dollars – to offshore at higher rates. President Trump talks and talks – but he has failed to deliver results for American workers. That ends under the Biden-Harris administration. As part of their plan
