Court-drawn map win for Dems, but still leaves uphill battle to retake majority in Legislature

The state Supreme Court today delivered a win for Dems in picking Gov. Tony Evers’ congressional and legislative boundaries. Even so, the new lines — if they withstand an appeal — would still leave Dems fighting an uphill battle to take the majority in the Assembly or Senate. Writing for a 4-3 majority, Justice Brian Hagedorn wrote Evers’ maps most closely followed the court’s November directive to take a “least-change” approach to the existing lines Republicans drew a decade ago. Evers’ maps include five congressional districts that have typically voted Republican in recent elections and three Dem seats. Under the

Fair Elections Project: Statement on WI Supreme Court decision and 2021 redistricting

MADISON— Fair Elections Project Director Sachin Chheda released the following statement in response to the Wisconsin Supreme Court decision on legislative maps: “The die was cast when a partisan majority on the Court ignored the Constitution, ignored the law, and sided with the interests of a few powerful Republican politicians over a supermajority of Wisconsinites who want fair maps. The made-up “least changes” framework, which has no basis in law, intentionally and unconstitutionally limited the options the court allowed itself to consider. “The partisan maps adopted today, which intentionally disenfranchise a majority of Wisconsin residents, are an unfair and poor

Evers campaign: Here’s how Gov. Evers’ surplus plan will address rising costs

MADISON, Wis. — At a time when families are feeling the effects of rising costs, Wisconsin’s record-breaking budget surplus shouldn’t be collecting dust in Madison — it should be used to help the workers and families who created it. Yesterday’s Marquette Law School poll highlighted that Wisconsinites expect action on rising costs. Thankfully, unlike Wisconsin Republicans, Governor Tony Evers has a common sense plan that addresses rising costs today while building a stronger Wisconsin for tomorrow. Under Gov. Evers’ surplus plan, every Wisconsin tax filer and each of their dependents would receive a $150 tax rebate — meaning a family of four would receive $600. Here’s how

Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Ron Kind voted for the bipartisan Honoring our PACT Act. After being exposed to toxins and environmental hazards while serving our country, far too many of our veterans are experiencing delays in receiving the critical care they need,” said Rep. Ron
