Dept. of Health Services: DHS accepting applications for projects to improve cultural competence of behavioral health workforce

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) is accepting applications for grants to fund behavioral health workforce training. The training must build provider capacity to deliver mental health and substance use services that respect and respond to the beliefs, practices, and needs of diverse communities. “This grant program seeks to ensure that when it comes to mental health and substance use disorder services, being treated with dignity and respect, and receiving care that is high quality and accessible, are things all Wisconsinites have the right to expect and are not the privileges of a few,” said DHS Secretary-designee Karen Timberlake.

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin Department of Justice has joined 9 other states and the Federal Trade Commission in filing a lawsuit against pesticide makers Syngenta and Corteva, alleging anti-competitive practices that have harmed farmers. DNR: To host open houses at fish spawning facilities in October

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting open houses at the Besadny Anadromous Fish Facility and Root River Steelhead Facility in October. During the open house at Besadny Anadromous Fish Facility in Kewaunee, visitors can watch salmon egg collection demonstrations, enjoy fishing displays, take a guided tour of the facility and adopt a sturgeon for river release. UW Health: Ovarian cancer still the deadliest gynecologic cancer

MADISON, Wis. – A project began today at the UW–Madison Prevention Research Center that is focused on earlier detection of ovarian cancer.            Of the five types of gynecologic cancers, which are cancers of the woman’s reproductive systems, ovarian cancer continues to cause more deaths in the United States every year, according to Dr. Ellen Hartenbach, a gynecologic oncologist at the UW Carbone Cancer Center and chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health.            “This is partly because it’s hard to diagnose,” she said.
